We as medical professionals are dealing with immense pressure and human suffering, making our daily work lives more and more filled with gigantic stressors. Always being under the gun can easily throw us off-balance. Negative emotions pile up, and we barely find ourselves in the present moment – our balance is completely out of whack.

General Information

The material presented is sometimes repeated through various courses and modules, but there is a reason for that. What we are trying to do is to bring this material, these teachings, into our hearts and daily experience. Therefore, this is not like a classroom where you memorise it, take the exam and forget it. Our ultimate hope is for you to become more resilient, happy and whole, in the meantime growing compassion across the globe where it is needed the most.

Everything is impermanent, in a constant flux of change. Even during these unprecedented times, we will be able to turn the corner for brighter days. Stay strong, resilient and happy!

Mindfulness

Our busy days are filled with many difficult situations, triggering many types of reactions. We often fail to look within, to observe our reactions in a more objective way. In the typical life of a professional on the front lines of mental and physical anguish, being tired and stressed out has become the status quo.

Mindfulness is an important practice to refresh, heal, and feel well. It is about training our minds to be in the present moment, observing our inner life, our thoughts, feelings and even bodily sensations, and adjusting them where necessary.

MODULE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Effects of not being in the present moment
  • Mindfulness with an ‘m’
  • Mindfulness with an ‘M’

Staying in the Flow

Let’s talk about staying in the flow. This is incredibly important, as we feel better and more alert. It doesn’t mean that we’re not emotional, that our hearts are not open, but we don’t let things stick to us as much as possible. When things come at us that are not so positive, we remove the ‘glue’ by not letting them stick.

MODULE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Outlining those clogged up moments that block us
  • Negative effects of hanging on to negative feelings and emotions
  • Strategies on how to terminate the endless film playing inside our heads

Emotional Hygiene

Emotional Hygiene is all about cleaning up our emotions, not suppressing them. We recognise them, hopefully their early states, and then use methods to transform them into their healthy opposite. Negative emotions like anger, fear, jealousy and arrogance are emotions that naturally creep up on us. They make us human. However, not being aware of the extent of our negative emotions and leaving them unchecked can create real problems for us in our personal and professional lives.

MODULE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • How do negative emotions impact our lives?
  • Reducing and eventually eliminating negative emotions

The Healing Nature of Forgiveness

Forgiving is powerful. Not forgiving ourselves and others is powerful, the first brings joy, the second brings us down. Whether consciously or subconsciously, we all hold on to hurts and grudges, against ourselves and others. They reside deeply within us, holding our happiness hostage.

MODULE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Types of grudges that we hold
  • Negative effects of holding on to grudges
  • Forgiveness of Self
  • Forgiveness of Others
